Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Inklena ("Inklena", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when clients and contractors use our website, apps and services.

Inklena is a marketplace: clients post cleaning jobs and verified contractors accept them. To make that work, some information is shared between the two sides, as described in Section 4. We do not sell personal information.

2. Information we collect

  • Account and profile: Name, email, phone number, password, address, and for contractors a profile and service area.
  • Verification: For contractors, identity details and insurance documents, reviewed by our admin team.
  • Jobs and teams: Job details, addresses, schedules, instructions, ratings, reviews, cancellations, and crew or team members a contractor adds.
  • Messages and support: Communication through Inklena and with our support team, and problem reports on jobs.
  • Payment information: Handled by Stripe. We receive limited details such as card brand, last four digits and payout status.
  • Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and approximate location derived from your address or IP. Google Analytics may also collect usage and device information as described in Section 6.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and secure accounts, and verify contractors.
  • Show jobs to contractors within their travel distance and confirm bookings.
  • Process payments, payouts, refunds and penalty fees.
  • Send service messages such as confirmations, reminders and receipts.
  • Provide support, investigate reports and enforce our Terms.
  • Detect fraud and keep clients, contractors and property safe.
  • Improve and measure how Inklena works.
  • Comply with law.

We send marketing or reminder emails only as allowed by law, and you can opt out of them at any time.

4. How we share information

We do not sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use Google Analytics to understand website usage, as described in Section 6.

Between clients and contractors

When a contractor accepts a job, they see what they need to do it, including the job address, instructions and the client's first name and contact details. Clients see the contractor's name and rating.

Service providers

We share data with vendors that help us run Inklena, such as Stripe for payments, Google Analytics for website usage measurement, and providers for hosting, email and support. These providers process information according to their applicable terms and privacy policies.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms, or protect people and property.

Business transfers

If Inklena is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of it, and we will tell you if its handling changes.

5. Payments and Stripe

Card details and bank details for payouts are collected and stored by Stripe, not by Inklena. Stripe processes them under its own privacy policy. Inklena keeps a reference to your saved payment method, its brand and last four digits, transaction records, and payout status.

We use the saved card to charge for jobs and for penalty fees you agreed to in our Terms. Contractors may be asked by Stripe to provide identity and tax details to receive payouts.

When Stripe services are used, Stripe may also process information and use cookies or similar technologies for payment functionality, security, and fraud prevention. Its practices are subject to Stripe's applicable privacy and cookie policies.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Inklena uses cookies and similar technologies to support payment functionality and understand how visitors use our website and services.

Google Analytics cookies

We use Google Analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with Inklena, measure website usage, and improve our services. These cookies may collect information such as pages viewed, browser and device information, and approximate location.

Stripe cookies

We use Stripe to process payments and support payment security and fraud prevention. Stripe may use cookies and similar technologies to support payment functionality and detect potentially fraudulent activity. Stripe's collection and use of information are subject to its applicable privacy policy.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may affect some website or payment functionality.

7. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and maintain Inklena, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, prevent fraud, and protect the safety of clients, contractors, and property.

Different types of information may be retained for different periods, depending on their purpose, applicable legal requirements, and our operational needs.

When you close your account, we will remove or disable your public-facing profile within a reasonable period. Closing your account does not automatically delete all personal information associated with it.

We may retain certain information from closed accounts, including identity and verification records, contact details, job history, messages, ratings, reviews, and payment or transaction records, where reasonably necessary and permitted by law, including to:

  • Comply with legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory obligations and respond to lawful requests.
  • Prevent, investigate, or address fraud, security incidents, safety concerns, or misuse of Inklena.
  • Resolve complaints, disputes, payment issues, or legal claims.
  • Collect outstanding amounts and enforce our Terms.
  • Maintain necessary business, audit, and accounting records.

We limit access to retained information to purposes for which it is reasonably needed. When we no longer have a legitimate need or legal basis to retain personal information, we will delete it, de-identify it, or otherwise dispose of it securely, as appropriate.

Some information may remain in backups or records maintained by service providers for a limited period, subject to their applicable retention practices and legal obligations.

To ask about our retention practices or request deletion of personal information, contact us at support@inklena.com. We will assess requests in accordance with applicable law and the exceptions described in Section 8.

8. Your choices and rights

You can view and update most of your personal information through your Inklena account settings. You may close your account at any time.

Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, as well as to exercise other applicable privacy rights. You may also opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe instructions provided in those messages. Opting out of marketing emails will not prevent us from sending essential communications about your account, bookings, payments, security, or other service-related matters.

To submit a privacy request, contact us at support@inklena.com. Please describe your request so we can understand and process it. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request. Where permitted by law, we may decline or limit a request in certain circumstances, including when we cannot verify it or when an exception applies. If we cannot fulfill a request, we will explain the reason where required by law.

We will respond within the time period required by applicable law. If an extension is permitted and necessary, we will notify you in accordance with applicable requirements.

For privacy questions or requests, contact us at support@inklena.com.

California Residents

If the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, applies to Inklena, California residents may have rights to know about the personal information we collect, use, disclose, or otherwise process; request access to or deletion of personal information; correct inaccurate personal information; opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information where applicable; and limit certain uses and disclosures of sensitive personal information. Applicable law also protects consumers from discrimination for exercising their privacy rights.

Inklena does not sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We will provide applicable notices and honor privacy requests in accordance with the requirements that apply to our business.

Illinois Residents and Biometric Information

Inklena does not collect biometric identifiers or biometric information through its own services. However, third-party providers, including Stripe, may operate their own identity-verification or security systems and may collect or process information under their own practices. We do not control independent processing by those providers. Please review the applicable provider's privacy policy for information about its practices.

Account Closure and Deletion Limitations

Closing your account does not automatically delete all associated personal information. We may retain information where reasonably necessary and permitted by law, including certain transaction and accounting records, information needed to prevent fraud or protect safety, and records needed to investigate or resolve disputes, collect outstanding amounts, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We will evaluate deletion and other privacy requests in accordance with applicable law. We will not retain personal information longer than reasonably necessary for the purposes described in Section 7, except where continued retention is permitted or required by law.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and monitoring to protect personal information, and limit staff access to what their work requires. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us at support@inklena.com if you suspect a breach.

10. Children's privacy

Inklena is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes and contact

We may update this policy. For material changes we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect, and change the "Last updated" date above.
